Job Description
The Cable Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring cabling equipment used to combine multiple insulated conductors into finished wire and cable products. This position will assist with machine setup, start-up, shutdown, reel changes, material changeovers, and production transitions. The operator will load and verify conductors, fillers, binders, and reels, monitor line speed, tension, lay length, and conductor alignment, and make basic machine adjustments as needed. Additional responsibilities include inspecting cable for defects or dimensional variations, using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and diameter tape to verify specifications, completing production and quality documentation, maintaining material traceability, and keeping the work area clean and organized.

 

Requirements

Requirements
High school diploma or GED required. Previous manufacturing, cabling, wire and cable, or machine operating experience is preferred but not required. Candidates should have good mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow work orders, setup sheets, specifications, and written or verbal instructions. Basic math and measuring skills are required, and experience using calipers, micrometers, or gauges is a plus. Candidates must be able to distinguish conductor and insulation colors, stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds. Must be dependable and willing to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, or holidays as needed.
