Job Description
The Primary Extrusion Operator is responsible for assisting with the setup, operation, monitoring, and shutdown of extrusion lines used to apply insulation or jacketing materials to wire and cable products. This position will operate equipment including extruders, payoffs, take-ups, cooling troughs, and spark testers while monitoring process conditions such as temperature, line speed, pressure, and material flow. The operator will load and stage raw materials, perform basic machine adjustments, inspect finished product for defects, diameter variation, wall thickness, and color consistency, and use measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify specifications. Additional responsibilities include completing production and quality documentation, maintaining material traceability, and keeping the work area clean and organized.

 

 

Requirements

Requirements
High school diploma or GED required. Previous manufacturing, machine operating, extrusion, plastics, or industrial production experience is preferred but not required. Candidates should have good mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to follow written and verbal work instructions. Basic math and measuring skills are required, and experience using calipers, micrometers, or gauges is a plus. Candidates must be comfortable working around heated equipment and moving machinery, standing for extended periods, and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds. Must be dependable and willing to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, or holidays as needed.
